DiscoverHope will be hosting “An Evening in the Andes” in the Connally Ballroom at the UT Alumni Events Center on Thursday, December 8. This year’s event recognizes the inspiring founders of two international nonprofits, both of whom are tackling global issues from the supportive home base of Austin: Turk Pipkin—author, actor, film-maker, and co-founder of the Nobelity Project and Maggie Miller, founder of DiscoverHope.
DiscoverHope will be hosting a concert at Ruta Maya on September 30 to benefit women living in developing countries on less than two dollars a day. Headlining the concert will be Austin-based Little Elmore Reed Blues Band. Also sharing the stage will be The Moonlighters and special musical guests.
6.2.2011 – DiscoverHope Hires New Executive Director
DiscoverHope is pleased to announce the hiring of Jennifer Edwards for the position of Executive Director effective May 2011. Edwards will direct the day-to-day management and growth of DiscoverHope from the Austin headquarters and travel to Peru to work with the field-based Peru Program Manager and support partners. Executive Director for the past 5 years, Maggie Miller, will continue her role as founder of the organization by serving on the Board of Directors.
3.2.2011 – DiscoverHope Partners with Ten Thousand Villages to Celebrate 100 Years of International Women’s Day
DiscoverHope, an Austin-based international development nonprofit organization is partnering with Ten Thousand Villages to honor the 100th Anniversary Celebration of International Women’s Day on Tuesday, March 8. International Women’s Day, first held in 1911, celebrates the economic, political and social achievements of women around the world.
Mayor Lee Leffingwell has declared December 8th as “DiscoverHope Day” in recognition of DiscoverHope’s commitment to serving women living on less than two dollars a day and his “profound respects to Maggie Miller, founder of DiscoverHope.”
12.22.2010 – Holiday for Hope Raises $31,000 to Support Austin-Based International Development Nonprofit
Through the third annual ‘Holiday for Hope’ event held on Wednesday, December 8, DiscoverHope and its generous supporters raised $31,000 to provide an opportunity for women in poverty to create their own prosperity through microcredit, entrepreneurship and training.
