Community Engagement Volunteer
DiscoverHope seeks a dedicated high-level volunteer with an interest in future board membership to lead community engagement activities for an Austin based nonprofit organization. This is an unpaid position.
We would love to work with someone who has lived and worked in Austin for at least five years and has developed a successful network of engaged individuals and organizations, particularly related to the areas of entrepreneurship, Latinos, and international development. Our objective is to expand the awareness of DiscoverHope and our mission to create a world without poverty.
The Community Engagement Volunteer will conduct outreach in the community, develop and deliver presentations and meeting with key leadership. This position provides leadership and direction to DiscoverHope to ensure a sustained effort of identifying, soliciting, cultivating, and retaining individual, corporate and foundation donors. The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, creative, outgoing and prepared to professionally interact with others.
The Community Engagement Volunteer:
- Has a Bachelor’s degree or more from an accredited university and at least two years successful experience in managing community-related activities.
- Has effective leadership and communications skills and demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with all levels of staff, board of directors, community leaders, corporate contacts, and volunteers.
- Has an ability to work independently, prioritize and handle multiple projects.
- Has proven ability to initiate/manage projects; strong organizational/administrative skills.
- Has proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and knowledge of social media.

Social Media / Web site Volunteer
DiscoverHope seeks a dedicated volunteer to help shape our social media platform and online experience. Successful candidates must be passionate, knowledgeable and active with blogs, message boards, Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, etc and understand the intersecting capabilities of each. We hope to have a person who can immediately take charge and work with the Marketing Committee Chair to create a comprehensive social media strategy that:
- Identifies key influencers, networks and online platforms relevant to our cause
- Identifies social media trends
- Defines metrics as well as monthly/quarterly/annual plans on how to achieve those goal
- Details the resources required to achieve goals (subject-specific blogs, online tools, etc)
Ongoing Tasks:
- Work with Marketing Committee Chair to fulfill social media posting/interaction requests
- Update, maintain and provide new content in the form of video, blogs, messaging, links, photos for social media sites
- Prepare key messages and images for DiscoverHope blog and web site
- Maintain an active presence at events, tweeting live, taking photos and video
The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, creative, outgoing and prepared to professionally interact with others members of the DiscoverHope team (executive director, staff, board and volunteers.) Must have strong writing skills. Must have social media experience.

PR Intern
DiscoverHope seeks a dedicated high-level volunteer with an interest in future board membership to lead public relations efforts for an Austin based nonprofit organization. We would love to work with someone who has lived and worked in Austin for at least one year and has developed a successful network of media professionals,
DiscoverHope has three key objectives related to our future public relations platform:
- Increase knowledge related to the elements required to sustain an annual public relations strategy
- Increase awareness of DiscoverHope among community members, Austin media, and potential donors
- Educate and inform audiences about the uses and benefits of DiscoverHope that will lead to increased funding opportunities
In efforts to achieve these objectives, the following activities are proposed:
- Support the Marketing/PR Chair with creating a communication package to include press kit and fact sheet
- Support Marketing/PR Chair to execute a general public relations strategy that includes developing and maintaining targeted media lists (TV, radio, print, community newsletters) and implementing a 12-month calendar with planned pitches based on timely events.
- Support Marketing/PR Chair to implement an event-based public relations strategy for three key events per year. This includes working with event planning, marketing, and community outreach teams.
The ideal candidate will be reliable, self-motivated, creative, outgoing and prepared to professionally interact with others members of the DiscoverHope team (executive director, staff, board and volunteers.) Must have strong writing skills. Must have public relations experience (either paid or volunteer.)
